Quick Watercolor Christmas Tags

Hello!
Today I have a little tutorial about making easy watercolor tags for your Christmas gifts.

WatercolorTags

For this project you will need watercolor paper, watercolors, stamps and a hole punch.  I die cut my tags with a circle steel die but they could be cut with scissors or a paper trimmer as well.

Cut out your tags in your preferred shape from the watercolor paper.  I cut mine with a stitched circle die because I felt the circle shape fit the wreath image I wanted to use from Studio Calico‘s Wreath stamp set perfectly but a more traditional tag shape would work just as well.

Next stamp the image with ink that is archival and will not smear when you add water.  You can also emboss the image with embossing powder and this will resist the water and keep the image crisp. I stamped my images with black Versafine ink and added clear embossing powder and heat set it.  This is how I like to black emboss rather than using black embossing powder.

Next watercolor the image.  I used two different green colors on my wreaths.  After coloring in the image I also added some flicks of green over top. The flicks of pain are a personal preference however it is a good way to disguise any stray paint you may have.

Next punch a small hole in the top of the tag and added ribbon or twine to attach your tag with.  I used a very small hole punch because of the size of my tag but a standard hole punch works just as well.

The plain wreath tags are cute just as they are but I decided I wanted to add a sentiment to the center of the wreaths.  This could be done before coloring if you like just be sure to stamp in a water proof ink. If you add the sentiment after it is dry then it does not matter what kind of ink you use.

You can added a “to” and “from” to the back side if you like, again personal preference.  It can also be left blank so write a personal message on.

Finally embellish your tags anyway you want by adding gems or glitter.  I added red stickles glitter like berries on one of my wreaths.

These are very easy to make and mass produce then there will be matching tags on all your holiday gifts.  Thanks for stopping by today!
