Whimsy & Sparkle

I took a break from wedding things to make a couple of cards today.  The first card features paper piecing which is both this week’s Lawnscaping Challenge #4 and one of the Stamp It! Technique Week Challenges at Moxie Fab World.  I love the look of paper piecing.

a little birdie hello
For this card I used stamps from Lawn Fawn’s Critters in the Burbs, Fly Free and Sophie’s Sentiments.  I was inspired to use some distress inks after watching the first couple Distress Inks Lessons Britta has started on her blog.  I lucked out at Michael’s today and all the ink pads were on sale! (40% off) So I picked up a couple more colors.  I used Broken China to stamp the swirl background (Hero Arts Magical Background) and distress the edges of light cardstock and Tea Dye to distress the background piece.  And I learned how to tie a bow! Yay!  I also used my new Copic ‘atyou Spica’ Glitter pens to outline the bird and sentiment.
For my second card I played along with the Get Sketchy #75 and Cupcake Challenge #130 “Cake ‘n’ Ice Cream”.  Here is the Sketch from Get Sketchy…
cupcake sparkle
I just love using glitter, but I haven’t use it in awhile so I thought this colorful cupcake could use some sparkle.  The birthday cupcake stamp is from Hero Arts, the sentiment from Lawn Fawn’s Sophie’s Sentiments and the tiny cupcake stamped for the background is from Stampin’ Up!  I used Martha Stewart iridescent glitter for accents on the cupcake and my new Lacey Circles nestabilities die for the purple circle.

  1. Love both of these cards! The scalloped border on the top card totally makes it for me; it's the perfect touch. And thank you so much for the shout out; I'm totally blushing. 🙂 Love the cupcake card as well. The subtle stamping in the background is great and is making me hungry. Hehe.
