Stenciled City

I’ve been playing with stencils as part of the Stenciled class at Online Card Classes. I had collected a few stencils but not used them too much until this weekend.  On this card I used a couple different techniques. I had been wanting to make this city scape with the embossing paste for a long time, but wasn’t sure how to do the city as well as the background without the colors blending together but thanks to some techniques shown in class I finally devised a plan!

I inked the solid part of the city with distress ink, then covered it with versamark ink while the stencil was still overlaid and clear embossed the solid image.  Thanks to Laura Bassen for that little idea! Then I used distress ink to create the sky.  The clear embossing over the city resisted the sky colors.  After everything was blending I used Jennifer McGuire‘s trick of a hot iron and typing paper to remove the embossing. (you can check our her post HERE) Finally I used the outline part of the stencil to apply silver embossing paste over the distress inked city.

It did take me a couple tries but finally success! I did get a little of the embossing onto the sky on accident when ironing it off but I didn’t want to start over for a fifth time. I did learn that leaving the embossing on the page made things a little too slick to apply the paste which is why I ironed it off.

Thanks for stopping by today, tomorrow is reveal day at Studio Calico so I will have all my projects with the new Sugar Rush kit to share!

  1. I'm here visiting from the Stenciled class. This is an ABSOLUTELY awesome card!!! Sounds like you went to an awful lot of trouble for it. Glad it worked out!
