Mixed Background Cards

Hi Friends!

Today I have a fun card set to share. I had the idea to make these cards layering background dies to get a “window” effect and then I took it a set further and cut my backgrounds apart and mixed them together to create cards for all seasons.

I only had to cut each back ground once and color it to make all four cards. Let’s take a look at each one a bit closer.

This card is the first one I created and I used the Four Square backdrop: landscape (but turned in a portrait orientation) for my frame. I colored each of the four background pieces completely with Copic markers then cut each one in half vertically.  I then took one half of each background and cut it in half again horizontally to create each corner of the rectangle.

The nice thing is these Backgrounds are not directional so they can be turned to fit any corner. Each one was glued to the back of the frame before adhering the whole thing to a cream colored card base. I then used the Magic Messages stamp set and coordinating die to create the sentiment for the center. I white embossed the sentiment and popped the circle up on foam squares for some dimensions, finally I added the gold gems for some shine.

Next I took the remaining corners I had previously cut and made a second card similar to the first. I did change up which corners I placed which seasonal background but as I mentioned before they can be moved around to any corner of your choosing. For this one I used one of the left over rectangles from the Four Square Backdrop: Landscape frame to create a place for the sentiment. I mixed a die cut scripty thanks from gold sparkle cardstock with the stamped “so much” from the Thanks, Thanks, Thanks stamp set. This center element is again popped up with foam for some dimension and I used the same gold gem embellishments throughout all my cards.

Next I took the left over half backgrounds I had and pulled out the Peekaboo Backdrop to create the kraft frame. This die has square and rectangle openings. I used the frame as guide to figure out where to cut each half to get a square and rectangle background piece that fit behind this frame.  Just as before I adhered each piece to the back of the frame and before putting it onto the card base.  For this one I used the Scripty For You and stacked 5 die cuts from kraft behind the stop gold glitter die cut.

Finally I used the last remaining background pieces to create another card with the Peekaboo Backdrop since this frame is what my remaining pieces fit into. I die cut a heart from Narwhal cardstock and used a white die-cut Scripty Love and a small white banner for the stamped portion of my sentiment to match the colors of my first card.

I’m very pleased at how these cards turned out.  I also think that they look good with just one background behind the frame if you want to stick to something more simple like just flowers or just snowflakes.  They are perfect for any occasion or sentiment or even just a set of notecards without sentiments. You can check out the whole process and see how I made all of them in the video below or HERE on my YouTube channel.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

  1. Beautiful cards! I don’t have the backdrops but I do have the coordinating seasons in the Magic Iris add-ons, I’m thinking about trying something similar with them.
