Hello!
Today I have a very special card to share. My friend and fellow Fawnie, Tammy has a new challenge, Home is Where the Heart is. The theme of this challenge is to create a design that is focused on your home. For me, home is North Carolina, The Old North State! I really had lots of fun creating this card for my home state. How many NC references can you find in this design? Don’t worry I will give you the answers. 🙂
I created a card to represent the whole state of North Carolina from the mountains to the sea. I live in the west, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, home to these black bears and lots and lots of trees. Pine trees to be exact, so here’s to the Land of the Longleaf Pine. I went to school in Raleigh in the middle of the state, which is why I placed the schoolhouse image here. In the east, you find the coast and the Outer Banks, home to 7 coastal lighthouses. I colored my lighthouse to represent the one at Cape Hatteras. I also added a pirate ship in the sound to represent the Queen Anne’s Revenge and Blackbeard who settled in Bath, NC.
I cut all my background pieces from white cardstock and colored them all using distress inks. I used blue and teal shades along with greens to represent the Blue Ridge Mountains. I used Peacock Feathers and Blueprint Sketch for the upper mountains and Peacock Feathers mixed with Lucky Clover and Evergreen Bough for the lower mountains. The hillside is colored with Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn. The ocean is Salty Ocean and the Outer Banks sand is Tea Dye with a little bit of Vintage Photo. Harold’s ABCs and Claire’s ABCs were the perfect way to create the custom sentiment.
